Funeral Policy

FUNERAL POLICY & NOTIFICATION

As per our by-laws, the purposes of this organization are: to honor all of our public safety personnel both locally and nationally by providing Scottish music for funerals and memorials without any cost; to represent the men and women of Maine’s Public Safety by participating in a variety of events including, but not limited to: funerals, memorials, fairs, community events, parades, highland games/gatherings, and competitions.

In keeping with our by-laws and mission, the following will be the guidelines for handling funeral requests and announcements. Due to the short notice of these requests and announcements it is imperative that all members are familiar with this guideline.

*No requests for Graveside services will be honored at temperatures below 40 degrees.

  • ACTIVE MILITARY – All active duty military personnel.

The following persons are entitled to have a single piper and/or drummer, free of charge, if they die and it is not a line of duty death:

  • PUBLIC SAFETY PERSONNEL – All persons who serve their communities as any part of a recognized public safety entity including though not limited to: law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatch, fire/police, auxiliary, and junior corps. This includes documented past or present service anytime during their life.

OTHER PERSONS AND RETIRED MILITARY FUNERALS

Funerals for all others, including retired military, are at a rate of $150.00 for a single piper or a combination of a piper and drummer and $400.00 for the entire Corps. (Note: the $150.00 is not per piper/drummer. If more than one piper/drummer is requested, the rate is $400.00 for the Corps. Only one piper/drummer will be paid on individual rates.)

The President and Event Co-coordinator reserve the right to offer discount or free services on a case by case basis, based on the person’s community service other than public safety.

The President, Pipe Major, Drum Major and Events Co-coordinator will be notified of any funeral request for the Corps and for ALL line of duty deaths. No commitments for our services shall be made prior to all of these people being notified.

This policy may be updated, changed or revised at any time by the President, or with authorization of the E-board.
