MAINE PUBLIC SAFETY PIPE & DRUM CORPS HISTORY

On September 11, 2001, a series of events took place that forever changed our lives. We witnessed the worst in mankind as thousands of innocent people were killed by terrorist attacks. However, we also saw the best in America, as we came together as a nation to stand up against the attacks on our country. 343 Firefighters and 72 Law Enforcement Officers made the ultimate sacrifice attempting to save others from further harm. We will never forget.

On the first anniversary of 9/11, some pipers and drummers volunteered to perform at a 9/11 memorial service in Westbrook, Maine. After the service, it was suggested that Maine needed a public safety pipe and drum band to play at the funerals of fallen public safety personnel.

A group of interested people had an introductory meeting in July of 2004 and in October of that year, the first official meeting of the Maine Public Safety Pipe & Drum Corps was held. In August of 2005, The Corps was incorporated as a non-profit organization in the State of Maine.

The Corps advertised by word of mouth and teletypes through public safety agencies and we have continued to grow the Corps into what it is today.

  • I would like to extend our thanks for the incredible support you and the members of the Maine Public Safety Pipe and Drum Corps afforded to the 2010 Maine Association of Police Awards Banquet. It is no question that your involvement made this the most successful and memorable night in the banquet's 11 year history. ...No small part of this was the moving opening ceremonies created by the Corps presentation.

  • I can't thank you enough for being a part of our Warrior Ride 2009 on July 11th!....Your participation in this day made it special for me, but apparently, everyone else there felt it was exactly the right finishing touch for our day. They said they had never seen a group playing at a benefit ride before and thought it was just perfect. You did an amazing job.....Thank you again. I enjoyed your group tremendously.

  • On behalf of the family of Spc. Justin L. Buxbaum and all of us here at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Homes, I would like to extend to you a sincere thank you for the assistance provided during the funeral services for Spc. Buxbaum.

The loss of a soldier deeply affects us all, and my staff and I were proud to be honored to be able to take care of Spc. Buxbaum and his family with dignity and honor. This would not have been possible without your help. Again, thank you.

  • I don't know where to begin to thank all of you for making this shoot of ours so much fun and so spectacular tonight. You went to such great lengths to make us feel welcome and to accommodate all our annoying problems of setting up, trying to get rid of noises etc.

Marc, you were so gracious to us, generous w/ the loan of your hat--so obliging and mannerly and you made us feel welcome, important and just great.

Please PLEASE thank all the men and women who were so funny and so fun and so nice to us, and especially to me when I was all thumbs trying to make music. Thank you for the fabulous shoot.

  • You guys and gals have proved conclusively that you always have a good time. I can't say how much I enjoyed your visit here and they still talk about your gig at the funeral (his name was Jack Fenety, fishing buddy of Ted Williams and a well known salmon conservationist). It was very politic of you to do that.

I thank you for the good time we had together.

  • To all the band members that were able to participate and to all the other presenters at today's MUSP/SASME production:

Thanks to you all for taking time out from your busy lives to give some Maine students a peek at Scottish History and Culture that they would not otherwise get from the public school system. So far the feed back has been positive.
